Trump Just Saved TikTok...For Now
A last minute deal keeps TikTok alive but for how long?

Dear Reader,
TikTok just narrowly avoided a total U.S. ban, thanks to a last minute executive order from President Trump. But this isn’t the end of the battle, it's just a delay.
The popular app, with 175 million American users, was pulled from Google and Apple’s stores for 14 hours, triggering panic among users and businesses that rely on it. The ban stems from a law signed under Biden, demanding China’s ByteDance sell the app to a U.S. company due to national security concerns. The Supreme Court upheld the ban, which was set to take effect this month.
But Trump changed course. He signed an executive order granting a 75 day extension, giving TikTok more time to find a buyer and avoid permanent shutdown. While this temporarily reassures users, it doesn’t erase the problem, ByteDance still needs a U.S. buyer.
Here’s what’s happening now:
The ban is technically still in place, TikTok must be sold, or it risks another shutdown.
Apple, Google, and Oracle are caught in the middle, forced to comply with shifting policies while keeping users happy.
Tech companies are feeling the pressure, if the government enforces stricter policies, they may have to rethink their partnerships with foreign-owned apps.
Trump, once a supporter of banning TikTok, changed his stance after using the app himself, calling concerns over its data collection “not the biggest issue.” But critics argue this flip-flop weakens America’s stance on cybersecurity and foreign tech influence.
So, what happens next? If TikTok doesn’t secure a U.S. buyer, will Trump follow through on the ban, or grant another extension? The social media and tech industry are watching closely.
This battle is far from over.
Be informed,
